Product Description
Look into the heart and soul of a horse.

A surprise birthday gift plunged Joe and his wife, Kathleen, into the world of horses as complete neophytes without a clue as to what a horse needed or wanted. They searched for logic and sense in the rule books of traditional horse care. What they found was not what they had expected.

Written for everyone who has ever loved a horse or ever loved the idea of loving a horse, this memoir leads us on a voyage of discovery as Joe and Kathleen navigate uncharted territory on their way to achieving a true relationship with their horses. Joe Camp’s inspiring book unlocks the mystery of a majestic creature who has survived on earth, without assistance, for fifty-five million years and teaches us that the lessons he learned apply not only to horses but also to our relationships with people.

5 out of 5 stars Much praise for Joe's quest of knowledge for the horse's mind   September 5, 2010
Kat Bowen
I wrote Joe a note on his Facebook page a while back, it read:

"Hey Joe -

I just re-read Soul of a Horse (I've lost count of how many times I've read it!). I just wanted to let you know how amazing the book is and how amazing it is that you are able to dig so deep into the horse's head. Your book applies wonderfully to people, and through reading it, it has helped me put some recent things into perspective.

Katherine"

I just got through a divorce, and when I first separated from my now-ex, The Soul of a Horse was the first book I pulled out, other than my Bible. Joe puts the communication between human and horse in the simplest of terms, and in such a way that I can imagine being in a round pen in my head, trying to speak the equine language. He writes so eloquently that I want to be out with a horse, seeing what I can do with them.
Joe's book has made me put into perspective my communication in the past, and how I want to communicate in the future. It has made me realize that hey, as human beings, it is imperative that we communicate with each other, especially in interpersonal relationships.

5 out of 5 stars The Soul of The Horse   August 12, 2010

This is a great read. My husband is a beginner in the horse world and this book really helped him understand the nature and beauty of this wonderful animal. Joe Camp has a sense of humor that is so funny! I can't say enough about this book!! Loved it.

2 out of 5 stars Wouldn't really recommend it   August 9, 2010
Horselady
If you aren't a horse person and picked up this book, you would be tempted to believe what's in there. It's mostly just the author's opinions, and alot of it isn't based on fact, such as the author claims that wild horses live twice as long as domestic horses--not true. If you research this topic (I did because I knew it wasn't true), you will find his statement is false. I found alot of untrue things about horses in this book. If you read it just from the perspective that it's just an opinion, okay, but as far as the author being some authority on horses, he's not, so don't take what he says as fact.

5 out of 5 stars The Soul of a Horse   August 2, 2010
Monica Freeman (Patoka, IN United States)
I highly recommend this book to all horse owners. As a relatively "new" horse owner this book opened my eyes to the gut reactions I was having to the " I have been around horses all my life crowd" wisdom . This book gives you the confidence to stand up for your horse. It is a way of thinking and believing that is for the horse, by the horse and ultimatley forges a partnership like no other.

5 out of 5 stars Finally logic enters the equation   July 14, 2010

Joe Camp took the time to use logic..rather than accepting others views on how to deal with horses. A must read for every horse owner.
